Their fucking with movies again! from boksmutant's blog

A friend of mine surprised me when he told me he had never seen "Terminator", He's 26 yrs old & I demanded him to view it.
We drive to the mall & go to "Sun Coast" video (a respected chain that sells movies, posters, memorabilia etc, Go home & turn it on. Within minutes of the opening I could tell something was wrong, the audio was off. I ignored the first sounds that were out of place & waited to see if it was just the opening. NOPE!
Every gun sound was augmented in the film to sound more futuristic, pew pew pew instead of blam blam blam. Even the club scene where the terminator almost spots Sarah suddenly gets a new sound added to the back ground as if to make it more dramatic, ends up fucking up the main song so bad that I had just had enough.

My friend yells "what the fuck!" when I get up & turn it off. I say "You've been screwed man, do you still have the receipt?"
After explaining the situation to him he understood perfectly what I was saying & agreed to take it back. In the end I had to rent a fucked up VHS version for him to watch just to get the film in its purity. I thought this was just an unfortunate, random experience but not so.

Years latter I got Net flicks & I see "Terminator" is available. HOLY FUCKING SHIT its the same damn thing with the stupid Power Rangers sound effects machine ruining the film again.
So I start looking on you tube at videos & MY GOD a few are on there as well.

For our younger members I bid you warning that you can be betrayed & not see something they say it is. NO warning on the DVD or nothing, no special edition, no remastered title on it nothing. I'm bringing this up as a crusade I'm on to have this knock off, piece of shit banned for forever more. Please leave our movies the way they were made & don't try to add your revolutionary new Voltron sound effects to an already masterpiece!

Thank you.

It is an interesting state of mind that we are only able to accept the one version of reality we are used to, and to get a second version upsets us. If someone used to the new version of the film gets the old version they may have the same effect as you, bt over the old one instead, demanding their money back or a copy of the new version.

Wow, really? That sucks. I still have a VHS collection, some of the originals were so much better than the 'digitially re-mastered' editions. People laugh at me because I have a VHS player, and I laugh at them - because they really don't know what they are missing.

@Mabuz Luciferi:

Yes, that's possible. Although, there's more going on than just nostalgia. Since the 1980's, there's been a desire to have such classic movies altered to be less dark, less violent, and less sexual. Basically, everything cool is being edited out.

So, if I had only seen the new version of Terminator and then went back to see the old version, I would appreciate the old version more because, more often than not, there'd be more sex, violence, and darkness.

Another example would be the Star Wars prequels. The original Star Wars films were more "adult oriented" and were ultimately more successful. The later Star Wars prequel films were definitely made with kids in mind... and that's where they failed.

I've always argued, "Let all the filth of the world spill out into the schools and churches! I mean, the kids are going to see it sooner or later anyway..."

As for the Star Wars prequels, there's no way you can tell me that those have been done for years and that George Lucas just used the original scripts...

I don't think sheltering children from the world is healthy, they should be exposed to real world elements with guidance, that is the role of a parent, to guide.

I could buy that... And imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
